Hema: The Dance of Life, is a documentary film directed by Rana Segal, who has been chronicling the journey of acclaimed Bharata Natyam dancer Hema Rajagopalan since 1976. Hema's dynamic devotion to Bharata Natyam dance transformed more than the Chicago Indian community; she preserved her culture's traditions for all artistic genres to experience.
Hema is a storyteller. Her dance and her creations reflect the connection between Indian culture, mythology, philosophy and today's contemporary life. And through these dances, she exposes the wider community to classic Indian culture.
